Perhaps you’ve only just discovered ubuntu. Although very frustrating at times, ubuntu is more stable and user friendly than Windows. This blog is my personal discoveries of ubuntu and how to get things to work.In the beginning you may want to just revert back to your old OS, but hang in there… it’s worth it.For me, these are the key steps to getting started:
1. Get your internet connected.
Using your phone as a modem (Very helpful)
You will need to check on the ubuntu community sites for info on connecting with bluetooth.
2. Download all updates (Make sure you’ve selected all the repositories under “settings” in the Synaptic package manager, except for “source code”, unless you want that).
3. Download the “Ubuntu restricted extras” to be able to use things like mp3, java and flash.
4. If you want to play DVD’s you will need to change your movie player to something that supports normal DVD formats, again, this is because of the licensing issues. I will be posting a blog on this soon. Click here for some helpful info.
